Menu Planning Monday - Dec 31st
Happy New Years!
I hope everyone has had a happy and merry holiday season, and much wishes from my family to all of you for the upcoming new year!
Monday - Pizza, snacks (crackers, cheese and pepperoni, rice krispie treat, reindeer chow), "juice" and sparking juice (sadly, other then the pizza, I'm missing out on the family celebration while I go back to work).
Tuesday - Quorn "turkey" roast, Ham steak (for the meat eaters), and mashed potatoes
Wednesday - Grilled cheese and soup (special request for cream of mushroom soup)
Thursday - Breakfast for dinner
Friday - Homemade "fast food" night: chicken fingers, burgers, baked friends
Saturday - Pizza night (maybe not, we had a LOT of pizza this past week)
Sunday - Italian marinated chicken, spaghetti aglio, olio, e peperoncino, and salad
I'm going to try and be diligent about making school lunches, at least for the 2 youngest, again. I have a couple of recipes I want to try out for my vegetarians for lunches, so they can eat something other then PB&J for lunch daily!
And make sure you head over to I'm an Organizing Junkie for more menu planning links and ideas!

A free gift from MyMemories!
Everyone once in a while I get emails with links to free items from the MyMemories website store. I finally figured out how to sort all the spam I get, and lo and behold, I had a new email with freebies from them! The link to the downloads are good through January 14th, after that, they will still be available, but not for free.
This emails freebies seem very spot on for this time of year. I don't know about anyone else, but my gift to other is often my baking. I baked about 6 different kinds of cookies, as well as 2 different kinds of fudge. This freebie is a slice of pie box! I haven't tried them myself yet (post-holidays and my printer ink is too low!), but I imagine that printing on nice thick card stock would yield a nice sturdy box to gift someone a slice of pie.
Free online tutorial can be found here: Pie Box Tutorial
And here is the links to the pie boxes (there are 3 seperate links, 2 different boxes at each. The preview for Sweet sensation is the same as Just Us, but at the download site you'll see it's different)
Forever Bumble Pie Box
Just Us Pie Box
Sweet Sensation Pie Box
If you happen to NOT have the MyMemories Suite software yet (which just upgraded to version 4!), you can now purchase the software for $39.97. But if you use my code at check out (STMMMS37602), you'll receive $10 off the cost of the software, AND receive $10 to use at the online store! (if you have a previous version of MyMemories, you can upgrade for just $19.97, I'm not sure if you can use my code at checkout, I'll find out and update here).

Happy Holidays! Another My Memories Giveaway!
The contest is over with
Congratulations to mhavert!
Congratulations to mhavert!
My Memories have given affiliates the opportunity to host a software giveaway every month for the last quarter of 2012. Since I only recently found out, I was able to sneak in 1 giveaway at the end of November, and here now I am hosting one in time for the holiday season in December.
I was previously given the opportunity to review the My Memories Suite digital scrapbook software, if you would like to read my original review, follow the link!
Since my initial review, the software has updated a couple of times, keeping up with the changing wants and needs of customers. I have found the software relatively easy to use. So much so, that I was able to make a simple page in less then 10 minutes! Now, in addition to scrapbook pages, designers have different craft templates as well. From small gift boxes, to cupcake wrappers and party hats. There definitely something for everyone.
While My Memories Suite comes with plenty of templates, papers, monograms and embellishments to get you started on your way to digital scrapbooking, I really love looking at all the extra kits and templates from their store. I have bought many in the year since my initial review, but there is also plenty of free kits available to download as well. And it is just as easy to add purchased and free items as it is to use the program.
So cute, and finally a way to preserve photos in more then just endless files upon files "gathering dust" on my computer hard drive!
Want to win a copy? The lovely folks over at My Memories would like to give one lucky reader their own copy of My Memories Suite (valued at $39.97).
How to enter:

Please make sure to leave your email address (you can use the word "at" for "@" and "dot" for "." to help reduce spam). If you don't leave a way for me to contact you, I will be forced to choose another winner.

Keep Calm and Craft On
There has been quiet the bug running through our home this week. Alexis has some sort of infection, that, with exception to having clear lung sounds, would other wise be pneumonia. And poor Elizabeth actually has pneumonia. Then I have some sort of viral bug that makes me wish I could just stay in bed all day.
Sadly, this has sidelined much crafting this week, to my dismay. Thankfully, some knitting has found it's way into my hands this week, a perfect little project for this time of year.
A simple winter hat, being made for Elizabeth, who apparently outgrew the wool one I had knit a couple years ago (umm, it maybe have felted and shrunk in the wash). This one I'm making with acrylic yarn, doubled up, so we can avoid any further "oops" with wool items.
The giraffe fat quarter behind the knitting is there not just to hide my desktop, but will also be made into a couple of gifts for the eldest for Christmas. What, i can't share quiet yet... I'm not sure if she has found her way to reading this blog yet for gifting clues - lol.
Once again, I'm linking up over with Nicole and the rest of the gang over at Frontier Dreams

Menu Planning Monday - December 3rd
Well, I'm not sure which was worse. Thanksgiving, or my daughter's 14th birthday! a house with 7 teenagers (that includes my own), and a 9 yr old - all girls - was slightly more then chaotic then I am use to!
At least this week it's only crazy come Sunday...
Monday - Grilled Cheese and tomato soup
Tuesday - Chicken and rice bake
Wednesday - Pasta night
Thursday - breakfast for dinner (eggs, toast, etc)
Friday - "fast food" night in
Saturday - Pizza night
Sunday - With 2 holiday parties today (Cub Scouts and the riding stable) I think fend-for-yourself will work best!

Keep Calm and Craft On
"The act of creating, in one form or another, preserves my sanity amongst the chaos of life. This explains why I always have more than one project going at a time as well as why my housework tends to fall behind. I enjoy seeing what others are working on and keeping calm with, too. What are you creating? What is keeping you going? Snap a picture and share it with the rest of us by leaving your link below." - Nicole of Frontier Dreams
Girl Scout SWAPs. For those not in the know, SWAPs are Special Whatchamacallits Affectionately Pinned somewhere. Girls trade them whenever them get together it seems in larger groups. Since our Service Unit is meeting to go caroling around the neighborhood, and join back up for hot cocoa and cookies, we're going to exchange SWAPs (rather then try to do a gift exchange, which can get a bit tricky and leave a lot of feelings hurt).
Lizzy (with a bit of help from me) is making winter hat Swaps from some of my extra bits of yarn and the plastic ring from soda bottles. I love a craft that recycles what we already have!
1 down, just 28 more to go!
I wonder what Lexi is going to try and make for a winter/holiday themed SWAP?
I'm linking up over to Frontier Dreams - where you can find more links to crafty goodness!

Menu Planning Monday - November 26th
Well, I don't know about you, but I'm happy to have survived Thanksgiving! The chickpea tart I was attempting didn't come out so great, but I have found another copy of recipe and am going to give it a go, when not under the pressure of doing a holiday meal in the mist of a working holiday.
Busy week again though. Not because of work (as of 6am Tuesday, I'm on vacation for 6 nights!), but my oldest will be turning 14 on Friday!
So without further ado....
Monday - Pasta night (mom's away to Girl Scout cookie training!)
Tuesday - Microwave dinner night (after Cub Scout pack meeting)
Wednesday - Pasta night (yes, again, mom is off to bell choir)
Thursday - Fajitas (finally, a decent home cooked meal!)
Friday - Bagel pizzas (birthday girls choice)
Saturday -
Sunday - Baked ziti

Keep Calm, Craft On
So my knitting hasn't seen much action in months. Lizzy's Wonderful Wallaby is currently sitting at the "started sleeves" section of the pattern, but I've been slow to get moving on from just doing the cuffs.
I had been hoping to try and knit both sleeves at once, but I'm quickly learning I'm not quiet up to that kind of difficulty yet. I'm also thinking I'll need 1 29" circular needle. Right now I'm using a 24" and it's a tight fit, adding the sleeves will make it impossible for me to knit! Won't my husband be excited I'll need to head to the craft store! tee hee
So there it is, very much in the spot I got to just before the back to school craziness began. While I was hoping to have it done in time for Christmas, at this point I'm hoping to have it done in time for Easter! That should be able the time we can start wearing more sweaters and keeping winter coats at home more.
Besides the knitting, I've been also starting to think about, and gather materials for, Christmas gifts. I won't say here, in case any family reads this, but the kids should love what I'm making for them this year. :)
Today I'm linking up with Nicole over at Frontier Dreams

Menu Planning Monday - November 5th
So Here we are, a day late it seems. Monday's have been awful busy. It's back to school, a work night, and now every other week, it's Girl Scout night too! This year I'm not co-leading, but leading a troop of 1st year Junior Girl Scouts. Very busy, very exciting, and mostly (in true to me fashion, chaotic!
Menu planning is more important now then every it seems, to stretch dollar and have a plan for evenings when I'm not home enough to cook dinner myself. Between myself, dad, and the 2 oldest, everyone gets fed at least!
Monday - Pasta with sauce.
Tuesday - Leftover Turkey soup (I bought a couple of turkey thighs to make this, we didn't have a left over turkey! but it's an awesome soup that the kids and J absolutely love).
Wednesday - Subs and chips
Thursday - Tacos
Friday - Pasta night (mom into work early)
Saturday - Pizza night (mom into work early)
Sunday - Shopping day - maybe a fun finger food night to have with football!
Of course make sure to check out I'm an Organizing Junkie for more menu planning tips and links!
Neglect
I feel as if I have been neglecting this place for a long while now. Not intentionally, just that life has been busy. It happens when you add in a part time job, responsibilities to church, scouting, etc; and 3 very active children. I know I'm not the only one who is losing track of days and time in the attempt to keep everything running like a smooth ship at home. Somethings have gone to the wayside, this blog being one of them it seems.
But, as we begin our 3rd month of the school year, everything seems to finally be finding it's nitch. Scouting meetings for all 3 kids have somehow miraculously happen to not overlap, and I am still able to find the 1 hour a week to play in my church's handbell choir (a nice mid-week respite for me). Liz is back to riding horses on Saturdays, Lex should be starting winter/indoor track soon (currently recovering from a concussion from a hit to the head in gym class), and Andrew is anxious to find some place to play indoor soccer, but happy to finally be old enough to be busy in Cub scouts for the time being.
We are so blessed.
So I'm going to make attempts to come here at least once a week, besides the Menu Planning Monday posts (sadly, even those seem to have been on the back burner). I miss posting here, and now that I seem to have sorted out how to write posts a head of time to publish later (who knew?!?!) perhaps I can be a presence here more often.

Menu Planning Monday - September 17th
Here we are again. Does the madness of chasing 3 kids never end? I love it, but some days I just need two of me! Two school open house events for the two youngest kids this week (and that includes me sitting at Girl Scout information tables then too), and bell choir. Lizzy is re-starting her riding lessons this weekend, thank goodness it's a weekend off.
Without further ado:
Monday - Chicken and rice, carrots
Tuesday - Hot dogs (and vegetarian hot dogs) and macaroni and cheese
Wednesday - One dish vegetarian pasta
Thursday - Black beans and rice
Friday - Chicken fingers and french fries
Saturday - Pizza night
Sunday - Fend-for-yourself (shopping day)
After school snacks include:
vegetables and ranch dip
sunflower seeds
homemade muffins (apple spice, snickerdoodle)
pretzles
Of course, make sure you check out I'm an Organizing Junkie for more menu planning ideas and links!

Menu Planning Monday - September 3rd
And finally, school is back in session!
Between work, soccer, summer camps, and so much more, I basically took the summer "off' from blogging. I was finding it tedious and "work" and something I wasn't very proud of at the end of the day. So much has changed, yet stayed the same, since my last posting... but we'll have time to catch up later.
For now, I leave you with this weeks menu!
Monday: Take-out... busy night this night before the first day of school!
Tuesday: Chicken fingers and french fries with veggie snack tray
Wednesday: Pasta with marinara sauce, and side salad
Thursday: Chicken and rice, with broccoli
Friday: Leftovers, fend-for-yourself night
Saturday: Pizza with side salad
Sunday: Shopping day, we'll see what tickles mom's fancy!

Menu Planning Monday - July 2nd
July already - where has 2012 gone?!?!
This will be a simpler week, as our eldest is off to camp for the week, and summer soccer has not started yet. With just the 2 youngest home, I'm hoping for a "calmer" week.
Monday - BLT's
Tuesday - Pasta with sauce, salad
Wednesday - 4th of July holiday: grilling, of course (and seeing fireworks!)
Thursday - Fend-For-Yourself night
Friday - Subs with veggies and dip, chips
Saturday - Pizza night
Sunday - Tacos
As always, make sure to check out I'm an Organizing Junkie for more menu planning tips and links!

A Friday ritual. A single photo - no words - capturing a moment from the week. A simple, special, extraordinary moment. A moment I want to pause, savor and remember.

Surviving June...
I have been absent form this space for quiet awhile now, and not without some good reasoning.
June is an incredible month. Incredibly busy month at that. I feel it's actually worse then the holiday season in the winter, to be honest.
With that said, I'm "back" in the saddle again with blogging. I'll be making my regular updates here again now that school, girl scouts, band and jazz band, lacrosse and more have either ended or at least greatly slowed down for the summer.

Writer's Workshop: Fourth Grade
This weeks writing prompts from Mama Kat includes:
- Share a story from fourth grade.
- Describe where you were when you met a boy.
- Write about a time you saw someone doing something kind for someone else
- Name something you swore you'd never do when you had kids, but now find yourself doing.
- List the songs that tell your life story (so far).
While making a list of songs that tell my life story would be awesome, I considered how long the list would be and decided instead to tell a story from fourth grade.
The summer before I started fourth grade was the year my brothers and I moved in with my father in the quaint town of Seneca Falls, New York. My father had grown up there with his 3 older brothers and parents, all of which still lived there. It was on a six month trial that we moved in with him, granted by the judge presiding over the custody case. (I'll spoil that ending, the move became permanent after the six month trail ended)
Moving had been both an easy, and uneasy thing for me. It was great that basically all my family lived in one town. My mother, who had been adopted, had no siblings, no other local family, save her (adoptive) parents; the very cool grandparents I wrote about previously. On the other hand, I knew no one else at all, and especially no one my age.
But that isn't really isn't part of the story I am going to tell you. I am going to tell you about the teacher of my 4th grade class, Mrs Basley. Mrs Basley had a fondness for the Peanuts gang, in particularly Snoopy. I remember she was very kind to me, at a time where, even though I loved being in Seneca Falls more then Geneva, was rough.
Now, I have been called a decent student in my youth. Math and science were subjects I easily picked up and did well on. But one thing no one has ever said I've done well is spell.
I carried a low D grade for spelling in fourth grade (which brought down those A's and B's considerably). And it was with great shock to me that 1 day during a typical spelling test that my teacher bent down and told me to consider re-looking over a couple of my words. I think she may have even said the line numbers to reconsider.
I couldn't believe it! I thought she was helping me to cheat by telling me what words I had gotten wrong, before handing in my test. Looking back now, I know the difference between looking back over my work and actual cheating, but to my little 10 year old self, it blew my mind.

Tuesday - Tacos (made in the oven)
Wednesday - Pasta with meatballs, salad
Thursday - Chicken and rice, with broccoli
Friday - "Happy Hour" dinner menu: nachos, finger foods, veggies and dip
